The fourth day of AYCJ last year was full of stuff to see. After a second redeye flight, I made my way to the Virginia State Capitol.
This photo was taken at the World Financial Center in New York City, New York.
The third day of the journey began by flying west from JFK. With little sleep during my first night on Hotel JetBlue, I made my way to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in Burbank, California. The afternoon was spent waiting for the show and meeting other audience members. It was worth the wait.
Last year I had the opportunity to visit Ground Zero in New York during my month of jetting. This was actually my second time I had visited. My first time was back in 2008. Here are some photos I took during my first visit.
The second day of the AYCJ journey started in Salem, Oregon. It was the first State Capitol of what would be fifteen I would visit.
Enplaning and deplaning is a fascinating example of how human beings interact. It seems like many passengers boarding a flight want to get on the plane as soon as possible. Whatever their specific reasons, this tendency has probably been exacerbated by baggage fees that have increased the amount of baggage brought on board and the high demand for the very limited amount of space for said baggage.
So everyone jockeys to get on the plane first, dragging countless bags, purses, and strollers. In my experience flying and boarding early, I have never made it down the jetway without having to wait in line. Strollers are left at the door, to be taken down and placed in the belly of the plane. Often times, a bag or two that just won’t fit gets bumped as well.
On the first day of my journey, I flew to Long Beach. Before JetBlue, I had never heard of this city. Transportation was cheap, easy to use once I found it, and a bit slow.
The Statue of Liberty in New York City was a gift from the people of France in recognition of a friendship established during the American Revolution. Artist Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned to design the sculpture.
The Statue was a reassuring sign to immigrants coming from Europe that they had arrived in the land of their dreams, America.
