Sunrise and sunset
Flying across time zones all month long and on a couple of redeye flights, I got to see some beautiful sunrises and sunsets, both from the ground and from the air. Here are a few I captured.
There were some days that were so cloudy that I never got to see the sun. Other times the clouds cleared up just enough to make a fantastic work of art. My favorite one was in Salt Lake City on top of the convention center.
While taking the tour of the convention center I thought I had chosen wrong and should have gone up to an observation level in a nearby building. My anxiety was so high until we walked out onto the roof and I was left speechless. There may have been a better spot to watch from, but I was happy with my choice.
I’ll never forget walking into the sun at JFK in the early morning, the sun reflecting off the floor and blinding JetBlue passengers.
One last note on sunsets. It still boggles my mind when you fly west as the sun sets, how the sun takes so long to disappear on the horizon. Without thinking too hard, a few reasons that come to mind are the elevation (39k miles above the ground), that you’re headed toward the sun (400 miles per hour), and you’re in a metal tube with nothing better to look at.
