On the ground
Day 2: San Francisco
09/03/13Day 1: San Francisco
09/02/13Three years ago I travelled around the United States on JetBlue and learned something about where I live. The Bay Area has a lot of diversity and things to do. You can experience quite a bit by just exploring the cities near where you live. Many people have the tendency to forget this in the routine daily lives we have.
Since I have a Caltrain monthly pass, I’m going to see what I can see that is either a walk or a bike-ride away from Caltrain. Hoping for non-rainy weather, but it’s the Bay Area.
Inside IRIS and LADEE Mission Operations Center
08/15/13IRIS is a solar observing satellite in polar orbit around the Earth. Because it is in polar orbit, the satellite can always see the sun. The goal of the mission is to study the sun and the energy transfer from the chromosphere to the corona of the sun by looking at the ultraviolet frequencies.

08/12/13Tom Barclay, Kepler Research Scientist
08/08/13Tom Barclay is a Research Scientist at NASA Ames working on the Kepler mission. Kepler is trying to find other planets around the stars and answer the question of whether we are alone in the universe. The program is looking for other places that look like Earth. Even with recent problems with the spacecraft, there is a lot of data that has already revolutionized our understanding and will continue for another generation.

K10 autonomous robot
08/01/13Last Friday, a K10 robot was remotely operated by Astronaut Luca Parmitano and successfully deployed three radio antennas on a roverscape at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. Here is video of the rover in operation.
Rover test opening ceremony and speakers
07/29/13After visiting the Mission Operations Center, the NASA Social group piled into two vans and traveled a couple of blocks to the roverscape on the western side of the research center. Six speakers introduced the objectives of the mission, what NASA Ames does, and why telerobotics is important to future missions. Here are videos of each and what each speaker talked about.
