Day 7: America's Cup and TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon
Today I went up to San Francisco for the TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon. Since it started after noon, I biked over to the America’s Cup Park. The crowd gathering at the gate for the 10am opening was sizable and energetic.
While waiting for events to get started at the park, I took advantage of the comfy beds I discovered last weekend to do a little coding.
Starting the day off, the park had a band play.
There was an air performance that left the crowd awing and gasping as he performed some very nerve-wracking stunts over the bay.
The America passed by. She is a replica of the craft which won the original trophy at a yacht race which coincided with the 1851 World Fair in London.
The New Zealand team boarded their boat and headed out to the start line.
The United States team was next and it was escorted by a fireboat from the San Francisco Fire Department. They even turned on the water hoses, which unfortunately obscured the view of the team and the photos taken by spectators.
I then biked down to the Concourse at San Francisco Design Center for the TechCrunch Disrupt hackathon. A large number of hackers turned out and filled the tables on both sides.
There were API presentations from a number of companies including Evernote, Chevrolet, Evernote, Samsung, Amazon, and Clover.
Wasting no time, we got down to business and starting hacking.
