A birthday card from Southwest

Today I went to my mailbox like any other mail delivery day. Usually there are bills, ads, and more ads. Did I mention ads? Except, today was a little different. There was this envelope. Thinking it was another offer for a credit card from Southwest Airlines, it was put at the bottom of the pile.

After processing all the other mail, this was the last one waiting for my attention. To my surprise, it was a birthday card.

Now, other companies have been known to pull a similar gimmick, often times trying to get me to open the card and asking me to sign up for something. Instead, this was a heartfelt birthday card. “Signed” by employees of Southwest.

That was all. No advertisement for a credit card, no promotion to fly with them again, no statement saying I’m so and so points or whatever away from a free flight. Just a Happy Birthday wish. That’s personal. Though it would have been fun if they had included a roundtrip ticket. Maybe next year.

Surprisingly, I haven’t flown all that many flights with Southwest. I’ve flown so many on JetBlue. So thanks for thinking of me, Southwest. I’ll have to remember to send you a card next June for your 41st.  You stood out from the others in the corporate world.
