Maine State House
The eleventh state capitol I visited was in Augusta, Maine. The first State House was completed in 1832. In 1911, much of the building was demolished except for the front and back walls, and was doubled to a width to 300 feet.
The draped female figure of Wisdom stands atop the dome at a height of 185 feet. The dome is made of copper and gold.
The House of Representatives is made up of 153 members, each representing about 8,600 people and elected every two years.
The Senate is made up of 35 members, each representing about 37,600 people and elected every two years.
Black limestone floor tiles contain fossilized remains of marine invertebrates.
Outside is a replica of the Liberty Bell.
